Question

I received botox for the first time today for masseters. the right side felt fine, but when the left was done I felt a popping sensation and a squirt in my mouth originating from the entry point. was botox accidentally injected into a gland and the gland released it into my mouth along with saliva? how concerned should i be?

Although Botox injections over masseter muscles can be close to the parotid glands I don't think you should be concerned. The amount of Botox units injected for cosmetic purposes are very low and won't interfere with the gland function. Keep an eye on it and consult with your provider if you have any concerns, remember results may take up to 14 days to be noticeable. Best Dr Obaid.

Thank you for your question. I don’t believe you have anything to worry about. However, I do recommend informing your injector. You can expect to see maximum effects of Botox in about 2 weeks. Best of Luck!

I don't think there is anything to worry about even if the Botox somehow was partly injected into the gland. Give the Botox 7-14 days to work. Again, nothing to be concerned about.

I don't think you have anything to worry about with the botox being in your mouth or even in the parotid duct. You still have another parotid gland which will be working just fine. Keep your physician informed and good luck from New York City
