How to make the alar appear smaller? (Not alar base reduction) (photos)

There are several ways of performing alar base reductions: one, which reduces the alar base as well as the size of the nostril and two, reducing the alar base alone without affecting the size of the nostril.  You are a candidate for the latter.  Consult with a Board-Certified plastic surgeon who will accurately examine your nose and create a plan tailored to your needs and wishes.  Good luck!

I agree that the nostrils should not be reduced in size. Using a strut graft to give the tip more projection would make the alar appear smaller relative to the overall size of the "new" tip. The graft would also give your tip a more refined appearance.
