3 weeks post-op of breast augmentation, small hole in the end of left breast incision. What is happening? (photos)

What is going on here? Please help. It does not hurt just small burning sensation sometimes. It started out like the photo with the red circle, few days after it was a hole. I have gotten mixed advice's, that is nothing and will heal by it self if I care about it, and the other is that it is serious.

Hi,
You should contact your surgeon to make sure that there is no implant exposure. Right now , the open area does not look bad, but you need to be very careful that the incision does not open further. BE careful with any bra that might be rubbing on the area and do not do heavy lifting or exercises. See your PS for followup.

The end of a BA incision occasionally can open up.  This is commonly related to a suture/knot that comes to the surface, and 'spits'.  That situation most usually heals itself.  Sometimes, the incision may open from fluid draining through the wound, or a suture that pulled through from tension.  Best to see your PS for advice on how to care for this wound.

Hi! You most likely have a spitting stitch. I would contact your surgeon to let him/her know. It's always best to keep your surgeon in the loop with concerns. Good luck to you!

Thank you for your question and photograph.  Your photograph and description indicate that you have what is referred to as a "spitting stitch" which is common and will heal on its own.  My advice is to keep the area clean and dry and follow up with your plastic surgeon.  Best of luck.

It appears as though you have a stitch abscess which is a stitch that didn't dissolve.  I recommend Neosporin and a bandaid.  Please have your plastic surgeon take a look to be on the safe side.

It appears that you have a small area of incision breakdown, which could be superficial, or indicative of a deeper issue. Small wounds like these need to be treated very carefully, especially in patients with recent implants, as an implant infections can create major problems.  I would recommend following up closely with your board-certified plastic surgeon, so that he/she can evaluate the extent of the wound and select the correct treatment to prevent any further issue. and as mentioned by all, you really need to see your surgeon as your surgeon knows how thick your tissues are, what sutures were placed and what is most likely happening.  Its hoped your implant is safely tucked deep to the depths of that wound and that is the most important thing that must be determined when you see your surgeon.  Best wishes for a happy ending.

It appears from your photos that you are having a deeply place suture now coming through the skin creating a hole. This is also known as a "spitting" suture and should be removed. You also want to make sure that your implant is not exposed through this opening. Therefore, you need to contact your surgeon during normal business hours and see how he/she would like to manage this issue.Steven Turkeltaub, MD
