Is 1mm punch size for FUE if you have east Asian hair?

Question

Caucasian hair is finer than East Asian hair. Does it mean East Asian people have to use larger punch size . I ask this question because the reason to use FUE is to have less noticeable scars

The size of the FUE punch depends on your hair and also the doctor's preference.  Even if you use a sub 1mm punch you may have noticeable scarring if you tend to scar.  FUE always leaves some form of a scar that is visible if you shave your head.

Size of the punch does not always correlate with post procedure scarring.  In some patients, scarring can occur with smaller sizes or larger sizes.  The scarring that occurs is typically hypopigmentation.  For patients concerned about hypopigmentation, especially with shorter hair styles the use  of scalp micropigmentation can be helpful.

While FUE hair transplants create no linear scar there is indeed a risk of seeing minor barely noticeable circular scars in the harvested area. This varies from patient to patient as each individual heals differently. the punches we use vary from 09.mm to 1.0mm on all of our patients whether them being white caucasian or asian. Discuss with your surgeon the risk of "scarring". Also, unless you wear your hair extremely short (buzzed down to 0) you and others won't notice anything.

Punch size matter a lot in terms of scarring after FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT...we use .8mm punch size for Asian patients with excellent 2 to 3 grafts yield..
.9mm is ok but again of drones on nomber of factors...let your doctors decided the size of punch according to  characteristics o your donor area..

A punch size of .09 to 1mm should be fine as long as the area is not over-harvested. Some patients will show more noticeable scarring then others. It is important to address these concerns with the doctor before you proceed with the transplant.

Punch size correlates with punch design. We use a design that almost always allows us to use a 0.9mm size. Asian hair from a size perspective, ranges from fine - coaurse, just like a Caucasian.
