Can Botox/fillers correct facial asymmetry from TMJD? (Photos)

Question

Or should cosmetic treatments be avoided until bite is corrected fully? I am 22 and developed TMJD on my right side in late 2018. Jaw is deviated left, but the left masseter muscle also feels quite hypertrophied. Pain resolved after impacted wisdom teeth extraction, facial exercises and stopping Invisalign, but I am concerned about lingering asymmetry. My main question before scheduling a cosmetics consultation is whether or not these are "safe" treatments when the joints are still technically "deranged". My TMJ specialist could not provide a clear answer.

you could try fillers, implants, jawline surgery; there are many options.  botox can help TMJ but also slim the face so I suggest seeing seeing an expert in jawline contouring.combination of:
1) implants
2) fat or filler injections along the bone
3) botox for masseter hypertrophy or platysma muscle/neck bands
4) ThermiRF/J Plasma/Renuvion/InMode FaceTite for internal heating
5) Thermage or Ultherapy skin tightening
5) PDO Novathreads or instalift threads for lifting
6) Neck or facelifting surgery
7) VASERlipo with or without platysmaplasty

Thank you for sharing your question and photograph.  A combination of Botox and dermal fillers should allow you to improve upon your facial asymmetry, but be sure to seek out a specialist in consultation to discuss.

Thank you for your photo. A hypertrophied left masseter muscle can be safely reduced in size with Botox injections. You may also get the added benefit of reduced TMJ pain as this may reduce clenching and pressure on your joints. Hope this helps!Johnson C. Lee, MD

If you have hypertrophy of master that is contributing to the problems with your bite then it would not be bad idea to try to correct this problem prior to having anything surgical done. If you are grinding or clenching , especially in your sleep and are not aware, you might be causing this. A trial of a neurotoxin might let you know what is going on and might even break habit that you are having. Be sure that an experienced physician sees you as this takes some thought and knowledge.
