I have had a full tummy tuck 15 days ago.I keep reading about seromas being located near or around the incision.My seroma is at the top of my stomach near the center of my rib cage. Is this normal?

Some puffiness can occur at the top of the rib cage which is the point at which muscle plication stops. This creates some skin excess which could be interpreted as a seroma. Sometimes a seroma can occur in this area. It is best that you sort this out with your plastic surgeon. A seroma can be drained, puffiness can be diminished  with some liposuction or thermae tight after the initial inflammation and swelling occurs, usually after several months.

While gravity dictates that most seromas are in the dependent portion of the surgical site ie the lower abdomen around the incision, it is not uncommon to have an isolated fluid collection above the umbilicus.  If the seroma is small, you can watch it conservatively, but if it is significant, it may require drainage.  I would have your plastic surgeon evaluate the area sooner rather than later to determine the most prudent course of action.  Best of luck

Hi dmerit, You can test to see if you have a seroma. Stand in front of a mirror and tap on one side. If you see a wave like the waves of the ocean you have a seroma. Keep wearing your binder! Usually this takes care of the problem and the seroma will eventually go away by itself. If you prefer, your physician can drain the seroma. I suggest seeking your physician's opinion. Thank you for your question. Unfortunately there are no pictures, in addition, I do not know which technique was used to preform your tummy tuck. You are still in the early phase of your recovery from the surgery from surgery. It  would be best if you consult with your plastic surgeon about your concerns. Hello dear, thanks for your question, they frequently are located near or around the insicion due to gravity, but that doesn't mena that can not appears at the top of your abdomen, it can occur anywhre under the skin flap. Remember to always have a close comunication with your PS. Good luck :)
