Each surgeon has her or his own ideas about the best levels of activity for patients after an augmentation. I encourage my patients to be up moving around as much as possible on the day of surgery. I encourage them to move their arms, reach up to cabinets, and be moderately active. Strenuous activity like running, lifting anything over about 10 pounds, walking a large dog on a leash, or pushing heavy doors is discouraged for a few weeks. I am a big fan of ibuprofen for mild discomfort after breast augmentation; that's all that many of my patients require. Pain in the back is fairly common for a few days after an augmentation. Movement and ibuprofen help my patients with this. Your surgeon probably has some particular recommendations regarding these issues for you, and your surgeon knows the details of your surgery and the types of activities that may be best for you. Don't follow comments or advice you read on the internet. You have a relationship with your surgeon; call your surgeon's office and see what she/he thinks!
