How Long After Rhinoplasty Can I Run a Marathon and Do Hot Yoga?

Question

I have a rhinoplasty sceduled on july 2nd and was planning on running a half marathon in the end of august. Is that somethng I could do? Also I am an avid hot yoga practitioner, where you only breathe with your nose throughout the entire practice. How long after rhinoplasty would I be able to go back to doing hot yoga?

Thanks for the question. After 2-4 weeks your surgery area will healed and yes you can doing yoga and also do other activities. I wish you all the best.

Most people can go back to strenuous activity 2 to 3 weeks after a rhinoplasty.  The wait is to prevent a nose bleed.  One should try not to get hit in the nose for at least 6 weeks after surgery.

It is certainly acceptable to undergo  workout starting at 3 weeks after the rhinoplasty procedure.   The main reason for keeping away from exercising for the first 3 weeks is to prevent a nose bleed

I usually recommend low-impact activity restrictions (walking, slow and level treadmill) for two to three weeks following rhinoplasty. This would mean you could start training in the first three weeks following surgery. You would be fine to run a marathon in August. The issue would be that you will likely be deconditioned following your recovery from surgery. We see this with professional athletes that we treat. It's not the surgery that hurts their upcoming season. It's the resulting deconditioning that can take a full season to recover from. The short answer is that you will be fine to run in August but don't expect a PR! I hope this information is helpful.
