I got dermal fillers (juvaderm 4) injected into my nasolabial folds yesterday. I've noticed that the area most filler (small lump) om the skin on top appear blanched (whiter) than the surrounding area. it is just next to the little red bruise. It also feels a lot 'tighter' in this area. Is the blanched skin due to skin necrosis? I went to an experienced filler and I don't have any pain apart from the area feeling a bit tighter. I can't feel the fillers on any of the other parts of my face.

Answer: Question of skin necrosis after filler It is hard to say from this photo if there is a problem or not. It is not obvious. I'd ask you doc to take a look. I've seen several posted on Realself that are obvious. Necrosis is the end result of the skin not getting adequate blood supply and dying. If there is impending necrosis, it can often be reversed prior to any problems occuring.

Answer: Skin Necrosis The blanching you see is most likely from the filler putting pressure on small blood vessels, and should resolve on its own fairly quickly. You may be able to speed up the process by applying continuous warm moist compresses to that area. This will open up the blood vessels and help restore normal circulation. Necrosis is essentially the process of the tissue dying, and can be caused by filler being injected directly into a blood vessel. This is rare but it does happen. The warm moist compresses will help with that as well. However, since that is a legitimate concern, contact your injector as soon as you can. Your injector should be very willing to see you right away. If not, try to find another injector who will see you right away. jlr
