Is this severe hair shedding 3 weeks after 3250 graft FUE? (Photos)

Question

Hi, I'm really worried - I had FUE 3250 grafts 3 weeks ago and it looks like most of the hair I had before has fallen out. 2 previous transplants, on propecia for around 8 years and use minoxidil every day. Does this look normal and will it grow back?! You can see photos before transplant. Maybe it looks worse because it's so short, just worried that I look bald again!

It is normal to lose transplanted hairs weeks after surgery.  It may take 6 to 12 months to see new hairs grow out.  Everyone and every surgery may be different so if you are concerned about your progress it is best to follow up with your doctor.

When were the pictures taken? You could be suffering from 'shock loss' in the recipient area or it could be expected shedding of transplanted hair. Without seeing the pictures in chronological order it is difficult for me to advise you. Please go back to your hair transplant surgeon so he can examine the area and treat accordingly.

After the hair transplantation it is common to see shedding in the first 45 days.This hair loss is temporary and the transplanted hair will start to grow in the upcoming 3 months . In my practice for each patient I clarify this point in post operative consultation both in written and oral .

Transplanted graft’s hair starts to shedding in the first week of surgery and may go on untill 4-6 th weeks after surgery. İt is not surprising to lost approx. %70-80 of all transplanted hair shafts in first month when you are washing, gently rubbing or touching the head. İt is shock loss and not permanent. Even your native hair may affected with that post traumatic transient hair loss…New hair at transplant and donor area starts to grow at 3-4 th month after surgery .
