I am not familiar with the OTC medications available in the UK.  However, you should discuss these concerns with your surgeon as they will likely write a prescription for pain medication for your recovery.  In addition, surgeons may differ in the recommended post-op instructions so you should discuss these details with your surgeon as well.

Hello,Thanks for your question. I would direct all these questions towards the surgeon performing your procedures. I also would recommend that you find a caregiver for the first day after surgery to help you as you come out of anesthesia. You won't be able to drive or perform much self-care, especially if you are on narcotics. You might be able to handle the discomfort with Paracetamol (Tylenol in the US), but most patients appreciate the comfort of a short course of narcotics. Ethnic rhinoplasty is a difficult procedure. I should know. My rhinoplasty practice is 70% Ethnic rhinoplasty. Your surgeon will need to be prepared and will need to prepare you adequately for your surgery. Be careful with medical tourism. Don't expect to have the same amenities as you might find in the UK.Good luck,Dr. Shah

Each different plastic surgery office is going to have different requirements for their postoperative regimen. In our practice, we give a prescription for Vicodin which is a medium strength pain reliever. It's important not to take any blood thinners before and after the surgery. It is also best not to be smoking cigarettes for least two weeks before AND after the surgery. Rhinoplasty is a difficult endeavor,  so choose your surgeon very wisely based on extensive experience producing natural results consistently.

Your surgeon is your best resource for instructions and supplies needed following surgery.  In general, there is minimal pain during recovery.  Best wishes!
