Hi there-The "chin dimpling” that you are referring to is often also called peau d'orange, or “orange peel chin.” This condition is caused by overactivity of the underlying muscle, called the mentalis. Botox is quite effective for this problem, as it relaxes the underlying muscle and helps to smooth the skin. Because the Botox stops contracture of the chin, it can appear slightly more prominent. As mentioned by my colleague below, a more permanent correction may involve augmentation of your chin, either with an implant or your own bone, as often the dimpling you are seeing is caused by straining of the muscles to cause closure of your lips. How to know which is best for you? Visit a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for an evaluation.
The chin dimpling is sometimes referred to as peau d'orange as it resembles the skin of an orange. Injection of several units of Botox into the mentalis muscle can greatly diminish this problem -- this is an off-label (non-FDA approved) use of Botox; however, in experienced hands, it is very safe and effective. Seek out a core" injector (facial plastic surgeons, plastic surgeons, dermatologists, or occuloplastic surgeons). This is because we all have a keen understanding of facial anatomy and the effects of injecting Botox/ Xeomin/ Dysport and fillers in different regions of the face. Be sure you are seeing one of us, and I wish you well!
Botoxis a great treatment to help soften the dimpling in your chin. Results generally last for about 3-4 months.
Hi. The muscle that causes the skin dimpling on the chin in your photo is called the "mentalis" muscle. It responds well to treatment with Botox. Often, the muscle is overactive in people who have a weak chin.
The mentalis muscle creates that unwanted dimpling along your chin, and 5-10 units of Botox can be used to effectively relax this muscle and eliminate the dimpling.
Chin dimpling can be caused by muscle tension and overactivity. This can easily be alleviated with a small amount of Botox injected into the muscle. Typically this muscle overactivity can be indicative of lower facial skeletal disproportion, but Botox could easily treat the muscle complaint. Botox in the lower face can help with chin dimpling, down turned corners of the mouth, and masseter hypertrophy (square jaw).
Yes the dimpling in your chin is typically caused by over active muscles. With time this can lead to the uneven appearance of the chin described as an orange peel in medicine. Botox or an equivelant toxin works very well in this area. Find an injector who you trust. Good luck!
Hi Butterfly. The dimpling of your chin is caused by overactivity of the muscle called the mentalis. Botox can work very well to correct this issue. Sometimes, if there is a loss of volume of the chin or a receding chin then fillers can also be used to non-surgically help augment the chin. Botox and fillers in combination also work very well to give you an optimal result. Hope this helps!
Yes. Botox tends to work very nicely for chin dimpling. A single injection will typically soften that look and can last for 3-4 months. I hope this information is helpful for you.Stephen Weber MD, FACSDenver Facial Plastic Surgeon
Botox is an excellent option for "chin dimpling" or "peau d'orange" appearance. This area is frequently treated with Botox. Seek a consult with an experienced injector to obtain treatment.
