Who pays for revision surgery when original surgeon has retired? (Photo)

Question

I have been trying to get the company that did my augmentation to give me revision surgery as my breasts have not only dropped considerably (not really evident in photo) but there is also a huge gap between them. The surgeon has retired and the company have refused to arrange revision surgery free of charge! Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you for you questions and photos.  I am sorry to hear about your difficulties after your surgery.  Typically a quote or contract with your surgeon is signed prior to your surgery outlining what/who covers which costs if a revision is necessary.  If you are dissatisfied with the response from the practice where you received your procedure, I would encourage your to seek consultation with another board certified plastic surgeon in your area to discuss your treatment options. Thank you for your photograph and questions.  Depending on the individual practice, and the amount of time since your original surgery, many physicians will work with patients on any revisions that may need to take place.  The patients are still responsible for the anesthesia and facility fees associated with this surgery. Unfortunately with your surgeon having retired, a negotiation is no longer possible, and a new surgeon will likely require payment for their services as well.

I am sorry to hear about the breast implant displacement problem you are experiencing. If your plastic surgeon has retired, you will need to seek consultation with board-certified plastic surgeons who can demonstrate significant experience helping patients with revisionary breast surgery. The "company" that your plastic surgeon was involved with will not be responsible to help in any way. Revisionary procedures are usually paid for by patients. This is definitely  the case  in your situation since your original surgeon has retired. Implant companies  only cover implant replacement for warranty issues. Best  of luck.

Unless you had some sort of written agreement with your surgeon and he does your revision, you pay for the revision surgery. Implant companies do not pay for revision, but do help pay for broken implants.
