How long before I can expect relief from very tight neck after face and necklift w/ platysmaplasty and liposuction 6 weeks ago?

The healing process in general can take up to one month for the majority of swelling to subside, incisions to close, sutures to come out, and for bruising to completely go away. #Recovery time from a #facelift varies from person to person, but patients can generally expect to be presentable within three weeks from surgery. Patients should expect swelling, bruising, and discoloration of the skin during this phase of recovery (swelling normally goes down after 48 hours; most bruising will go away within two weeks). When the skin is separated from the underlying tissues during surgery, small sensory #nerves are cut. Varying degrees of numbness will be present after surgery and will improve gradually as the nerves reconnect to the skin. This process can take from 2-6 months for face, neck and cheeks, and to 9-12 months for the forehead and scalp. Muscle weakness may also be present around the mouth especially if liposuction is used. This typically recovers fully in the months after surgery. 
As the nerves regenerate, the itching, burning, tingling and shooting #sensations will occur. Ice, moisturizers and gentle #massaging are helpful during this phase of the #healing process. Frequently there is a tight feeling in the neck, jawline and cheek after a facelift. During surgery, not only the skin but the underlying muscles are tightened to create a better and longer lasting result. Additionally, the #swelling will move downward in the first week and the neck will feel even tighter. Do not be alarmed: the sensation will decrease during the first month. 
Some degree of firmness or lumpiness under the skin is normal after surgery and will resolve with time. Local #massage of the areas may accelerate the resolution of this problem, which normally takes 2-4 months to disappear completely.The marks from a facelift can easily hidden with “camouflage” make-up which you can learn how to apply. The scars from a facelift mature within six to twelve months from the surgery date. It is during this time that the rejuvenating effects of the facelift will become apparent and the real result will be seen. If you have certain concerns about the procedures and #healing process, it is recommended to call your board-certified surgeon or their medical staff and discuss those #concerns.

A sensation of tightness in the neck is somewhat common after a neck lift. Trust your PS. This tight feeling will go away. However, some PS place a suture from the mastoid area across the neck to the opposite mastoid. If you doctor did this with permanent suture, it may need to be adjusted. 

Hello.  Congratulations on your surgery!  The tightness, just like bruising and swelling, will resolve in time.  I have never had a case where it did not come around to normal with time (knock on wood).  Your surgeon has probably told you the same.  Attend all of your post op appointments and bring your observations to the attention of your surgeon.  He/she will be able to determine if all is going according to schedule.  If still concerned or if it worsens, see a board certified plastic surgeon.

Tightness can be typical after your procedure. It takes a couple of weeks before the skin begins to feel normal after your procedure. Tightness is a common side effect, but it should begin to feel better within a month. I hope this helps.

This is very common after face lift surgery.  The combination of lifting and tightening the deeper tissues, combined with normal post-operative swelling results in the sensation of tightness.  You can expect relaxation of your tissues over the first six months and resolution of your swelling over three months.  Be patient, as this will improve as time goes by.

If people are concerned with their surgery post op, most people think that their necks are not tight enough post op.  It sounds like your surgeon did a good job, but I can't tell without pictures.  Follow with your doctor for post op care.

Your surgeon is correct that these sensations are normal following facelift surgery and that you can expect gradual improvement of the sensation of tightness over the next 4-6 weeks as swelling and inflammation reduce.  Good luck!

Be encourage most concerns as tightness and numbnessget better on their own as your healing advances. It takes6-12 months to achieve complete healing but after the firstmonth you will see a progressive improvement. Recovery from a face and neck lift will vary.  A good portion of the healing usually has occurred by 6-8 weeks however depending on the specific procedure to the neck, muscle plication with secondary tightness may persist a bit longer.  Check with your surgeon whether or not your progress seems appropriate.  Also sometimes additional medications may help with the swelling and tightness from the neck procedure.

Usually the tension in your skin after surgery would resolve on its own over a period of time. Generally, it takes about 3-6 months for you to fully heal. Your skin will adapt during the recovery period, and this means you will feel better over time. The numbness is also normally experienced but sensation will improve as you heal. follow-up with your surgeon regularly.
