I have had one Jessner peel and see no results. In was recommended a course of 6 but they are not cheap at £125 each so I wonder if I really need that many or is this just a sales technique? I am 45 with moderate sun damage and fine lines/ wrinkles . I was also recommended a course of 6 derma pen sessions and not really sure what is the best option as all cost a lot. Please advise.
Answer: Jessner peels Dear patient, Jessner peels are really fascinating. They are very much operator dependent. Please allow me to explain. I have been practicing dermatology and cosmetic surgery for over 17 years. I have also performed thousands of Glycolic, Jessner, TCA, and yes even Phenol peels. Jessner peels are ideal for people with darker skin color. They are much milder than higher percentage TCA peels and phenol. One or two passes or layers achieved a mild to moderate peel. Applying 4-5 layers result in a more aggressive peel. I often use Jessner peels in conjunction with TCA. Jessner is great in degreasing the skin and remove the top Corny layer. This way TCA gets absorbed more evenly. Please don't expect Jessner peels (even aggressive ones) to remove deeper lines. Jessner is ideal for fine lines and discolorations, Downtime or peeling can be 5-7 days on the face. Another useful thing about Jessner peels is that areas off the face (neck, chest, hands, arms, legs) can easily and safely be treated with Jessner peel. Peeling can last 10-14 days on the legs and arms I often prep my patient with Hydroquinone and Retin A before a TCA or deeper peel. Jessner peels need no prepping. I hope this was helpful.

Answer: Jessner's peels: worth it? Jessner's peel is a long time formulation topical treatment for skin, including sun damaged skin. It is one of the lighter, more mild or subtle peels, and can augment or enhance other treatments. By itself, it is not aggressive and is usually low risk for problems. Sometimes flaking occurs for several days, and some patients do like to see this.

Answer: Sagging Skin and Jessners Peels -- Get Co2 / Fraxel / Microneedling and/or skin tightening peels will not be enough to tighten skin but they will improve complexion and fine lines. I suggest laser combinations and radiofrequency treatments (Thermage/Venus Legacy) to promote collagen. Best, Dr. Emer.
