Is it possible to get an epicanthic fold through surgery?

Hello, As a baby I had an epicanthic fold, but as i've grown I have lost it. Everyone in my family has them and I recently went to a plastic surgeon who did a virtual makeover, since then all I have wanted is some sort of surgery to change my eyeshape. I really want a surgery to make my eyes upturned and if possible an Epicanthic fold. Many thanks.

Hello and thank you for your question. Ethnic and naturally exotic eyes have a certain allure, but developing a faux Asian epicanthic fold tends to yield undesirable results. Being an oculofacial surgeon in New York, I've performed many eyelid surgeries to rejuvenate and lift the eyes. Since you have not provided any photos, it is difficult to say whether this will be possible in your case. As an Oculo-Facial Plastic surgeon in London, I perform eyelid surgeries for patients daily to enhance the appearance of their eyes. To recreate a fold in the inner corner of the eyelid is a challenging procedure as it means adding skin, and their needs to be some loose skin to complete this and any scars in this area have the potential to be more visible. The other consideration is that it can create the illusion that the eye is smaller that does not necessary result in an improved appearance. In the first instance I would recommend visiting with a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in eyelid surgery to assess your eyelids in detail and discuss your potential options.

It is possible, however, it would really depend on the eye shape pre-op if the epicanthic fold could be done. It will be difficult ti give an appropriate surgical option without any photo. Your best course of action would be to schedule an appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon for an in person examination and a detailed discussion of your surgical options.

Hi,You need an in person consult with an oculoplastic surgeon. A computer simulation is one thing but ask them for pictures of previous patients willing to share their before and after. Getting an pedicatric type epicanthal fold is petty tough but may be possible particularly if of Asian descent. The angulation of the lower eye lid is easily changed.
