Can I re-pierce my ears after successful keloid removal?

pierced my ears (using a gun) in 2008. Developed peasized keloids behind my earlobes 1yr later & had them surgically removed in 2010. (also had kenalog IV into my ear cartilage once a week for 4weeks after surgery.) keloids havent returned & I want to pierce my ears again. GP says its ok & that the keloids were because I used a gun.Is this advisable? What are the chances of regrowth & how best can I go about this? I've had a belly ring since 2005 with no problem- done with a needle,not a gun.

Your issue is fairly common. I have found scar revision with direct excision of the scar with careful closure to be the most successful option. It can be done in the office, under local anesthesia, and in the NYC area, should cost between $500-$1000. Be sure to consult with a board certified...

Hard to tell from photo, but scar revision with excision of the scar and closure sounds like your best option. That part of the lip heals very well. Office procedure under local. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Good Luck!
