Thank you for your question regarding whether it's possible to get liposuction of your buttock to remove biopolymers in addition of a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty. Yes, it is possible to combine these procedures. I typically perform these combined procedures. Technically, I would perform the liposuction of the buttocks during the first part of the procedure. I would then perform the tummy tuck. During the recovery, you would be encouraged to sit or lay on your buttocks. Sitting and laying on your buttocks minimizes the swelling in the buttocks and tamponade or puts pressure on any bleeding areas. Therefore, sitting on your buttocks is encouraged. One word of caution: if you are removing biopolymers from the buttocks, the buttock will get smaller. Nobody knows exactly how much biopolymers was injected into your buttock. Additionally, no one knows exactly how much scar tissue you have formed around the biopolymers. Therefore, you and your surgeon cannot realistically anticipate how much volume will be removed from the buttock. If you had ever thought that you may want a larger buttock after the biopolymers removal, you may want to consider having the biopolymers removed with liposuction first. Then wait 4 months and reevaluate the buttock. If you had ever wanted a slightly larger buttock or reestablishment of your current buttock volume, you may consider taking the fat from the abdomen and putting it into your buttock for a BBL. However, it would require two surgeries. In conclusion, if you are set on having both procedures at the same time, go for it. You can do it. However, if you have ever worried if your buttock would be too small after the biopolymers removal, you may consider staging these procedures. I hope this information helps. I specialize in biopolymer and silicone removal and subsequent reconstruction. Since removing biopolymer and silicone is a big procedure, please seek an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon with significant experience in removing silicone from the buttock. Do your research. Make sure they have performed at least 100 biopolymer and silicone removal surgeries and have the before and after pictures to prove it. Carefully examine their before and after pictures and check their reviews on RealSelf. If you cannot find an experienced, buttock silicone removal surgeon in your neighborhood, consider traveling out of state if you must. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen.
