CoolSculpting for "buffalo hump"?

The flat CoolSculpting applicator could potentially be used to treat a buffalo hump, but it is difficult to know how effective this would be.  Another option would be SculpSure, but again, it would be unknown how effective the result would be.  Both of these treatments would be considered "off-label" for that area of the body.  

Coolsculpting will yield some results but it would not remove it completely since this needs some sculpting as well. You may consider some RF treatments as well, or combine Coolsculpting and Ultherapy. Good luck!

It would be considered "off-label" to treat the buffalo hump area with CoolSculpting.  If the fat can go into the handpiece, then it could possibly be treated.  It would be best to have an in-person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to see what your best options are. Use of Cool Sculpting in this area would be considered "Off Label".  It may work, depending on the type of fat.  Often, fat in this area is very dense and fibrous making even liposuction difficult.  An in-person exam would help address this.

I have treated two patients so far with Cool Sculpting for buffalo hump and it does work, the flat applicator is the device that works best. The fat in this location is typically too fibrous to get into a suction applicator. It does take multiple sessions to achieve an optimal result. Hope that this information helps and good luck! 

CoolSculpting works by delivering cold temperatures through the handpiece.  In the past, you would have to have enough fat that could get sucked into the handpiece to be treated effectively.  That's why we could only treat areas such as the abdomen, inner thigh, under the arm etc.  Recently, Zeltiq (the maker of CoolSculpting) introduced the CoolAdvantage handpiece that allows us to treat areas that don't necessarily have pinchable fat.  As such, the buffalo hump can be an area that is treatable.  Hope this helps.  

If the fat can be placed in a handpiece and sucked into it, the area can be treated. It might be that the CoolMini handpiece has to be used. Another option is Kybella for this area.
