Coolsculpting or skin tightening above the knee? (photo)

Question

Can you tell from the picture if the wrinkles above the knee are caused by fat pushing down the skin and knee? There are wrinkles only when I straighten my legs. If so coolsculpting to reduce the fat above the knee could help reduce the wrinkles? if not, I guess I will have to go through other skin tightening procedure? Thanks a lot!

CoolSculpting is an excellent tool for eliminating isolated pockets of fatty
tissue. Unfortunately, the noninvasive procedure cannot restore skin
elasticity. Lax, wrinkled tissue, such as that above the knee, may sag more
after the underlying fat is eliminated. I recommend scheduling a consultation
appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon in your area. He/she can
perform an in-person evaluation to assess your skin quality, as well as discuss
your aesthetic goals. Together, the two of you can decide on the best treatment
plan to reach your desired results.

Thank you for your question. You may have the best results from combining CoolSculpting with something like Ulthera or Profound. The Coolsculpting will help eliminate unwanted fat, and the profound or Ulthera will tighten. However it is best to consult with a local phtysician to make sure that you have the right kind of fat, and enough fat in that area. Good luck!

A combination of liposuction (of any kind) combined with an RF-based skin tightening treatment (i.e. Thermi-Tight) would yield the best result. As you may be aware, Coolsculpting will help resolve "fat issue" but may exacerbate problems related to excess skin. Hence, following Coolsculpting, you may require a skin tightening procedure. Also be aware that results after Coolsculpting may not be obvious for several weeks.

Coolsculpting is good for fat removal, but lacks skin tightening. I recommend skin tightening with a hi definition procedure like VASER HI DEF. I use VASER with ThermiRF and fat grafting to get the most fat removal and skin tightening. This combination will give you the smoothest result. Coolsculpting would not be effective for sagging and wrinkled skin above knees. It works on pinchable areas of fat. You may consider different treatments for skin tightening such as ultherapy in combination with some other treatments. Thanks for your question.Treatment of stubborn fat and loose skin around the knee has always been a difficult problem to address.  Recently I have been treating this with combination therapy of coolsculpting followed by a Thermi treatment to get nice results.  These are in office procedures with no real downtime and have worked well for my patients so far.

Thanks for your question and as you have read, CoolSculpting is great to remove excess pockets of fat but by itself may not do much for the wrinkling or laxed skin in the area. A skin tightening procedure with one of the RF skin tightening devices can be done here on top of the CoolSculpting and can give some very nice results – the Venus Legacy, the EndyMed 3Deep, and the Alma Accent, amongst others, can be used here.  Several years, our group published a study on the use of Ultherapy on skin tightening of the knees and the results were very impressive so one might consider Ultherapy here.  Find a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon and find the best therapies for you.
