Hello. I am getting breast implants in less than 2 months above the muscle. I’m thinking of going with saline. I do extreme sports where it’s possible to get hurt (or fall from something high on to concrete possibly) as well as martial arts. And I also like going in mosh pits when I go to concerts. Will I still be able to do these things after getting implants? My biggest concern is that I will break them. Thanks!
Answer: Can you get punched in the boob after you have implants? I do extreme sports. Thank you for your question, which I find very interesting.Although the risk of rupture of the implant is quite low, the kind of activities you mention (with the risks of possibly falling on concrete - such as parkour I guess?) are likely to increase the possibility of rupture. I am not really sure that saline would be more resistant than silicone and the position of the implants in front of the muscle would, in theory, expose them to a more direct impact compared to an implant sub-muscular. I have however to assume that you have an indication for the placement of the implants in front of the muscle and you have been advised by your surgeon. All implants are tested and have to be able to maintain shape and integrity when exposed to pressure. However there are situations which cannot be replicated in laboratory. I believe that, considering the kind of sports you practice, although low, the risk of possible rupture of the implants might be slightly higher than in the general population.Just try to be as careful as possible. I hope it helps.

Answer: Sports after Breast Implants Thanks so much for your question! You should be able to participate in many sports after breast augmentation. However, direct trauma or force, such as from a car accident or fall, to either saline and also silicone implants can cause them to rupture. I've had patients come to see be after their implants ruptured from being elbowed, car accident, and sometimes unknown. Hope this helps...best of luck! Sincerely, Joyce C. Chen, MD, MPH, FACS

Answer: Saline implants and extreme sports Hello and thank you for your question. If you're that active, I recommend silicone implants behind the pectoralis muscle. Saline will tend to deflate easier, they are heavier and less natural looking.

Answer: Advice Hello. Thank you for your inquiry. It is important to get cleared by your doctor before engaging in specific physical activity before the 3 month healing period has ended as the healing stage is crucial for healthy results. Our tips for recovery following breast augmentation are to wear a supportive sports bra for 3 months post-operative and refrain from lifting anything heavier than 10 lbs for 3 weeks as we don't want any strain at your incision sites. Make sure to keep the area of your stitches clean by cleansing with hydrogen peroxide daily. Showering is encouraged! But, no sitting in water for 2 weeks following surgery (no baths, hot tubs, pools etc.). It is important to have an in-person assessment regarding your concerns as it is difficult to determine virtually. There are many different factors that go into choosing a breast implant size which will correspond with your body dimensions while concurrently achieving your aesthetic results. Some of these factors are: Implant size (CC's), Implant profile (Low, Moderate, High), Placement of the implant (Subglandular vs. Dual Plane) etc. We utilize smooth round cohesive silicone gel 'gummy bear' implants for the best results. During a consultation your aesthetic goals are heard and taken into account with the measurements of your breasts and the integrity of your tissue, as well as level of ptosis (sag). From here we collectively can find your 'perfect fit'. You are able to try out sizers and different implants in our office such that you can get an idea of what size you would be post-operation. We also offer Crisalix 3D plastic surgery virtual simulator during our in-person and virtual consultations to preview potential results. After your consultation, you will receive your very own implant sizers to take home with you (at a small cost) whether or not you decide to go forward with your procedure. I usually recommend that my patients stop smoking, take vitamin C daily, and avoid aspirin/ibuprofen and vitamin E 3 weeks prior to surgery. I specialize in the 24-hour Recovery method which minimizes trauma to the breast and decreases pain post-operatively. We encourage you to look at our website and Instagram (drkaraplasticsurgery) for lots of before and after pictures! Please note that this response does not substitute patient-doctor relationship. We welcome any and all patients seeking advice to come in for a complimentary consultation available for limited time only. During the COVID-19, we are offering complimentary online consultations as well as in-office consultation with social distancing and masks. Procedure done in-hospital private surgical facility while taking covid-19 precautions. We utilize UV-light to clean the air of viruses and bacteria during our consultations and surgery. We invite you to come in to discuss your options more thoroughly.
