Using lemon juice is not an effective approach to clear dark spots. This pigmentation is produced by cells deeper skin layers. Laser offers a safe and more effective form of treatment. This modality uses a specific energy wavelength to actually destroy the pigment so that the remains can be carried away by the immune system which produces the desired clearing effect. Here is an example of a female patient treated at my office, the Dr.U Clinic, who had this done to get rid of her age spots. We used the Fraxel Dual laser to help clear her complexion and soften her skin.
Treatment of dark spots and age spots can be performed with fractional laser and Covalent chemical peels. I would start with the Kareskin brightening kit with Melarase AM and Melarase PM with Melapads. Best, Dr. KaramanoukianRealself100 Surgeon
Lemon juice contains Citric Acid which is an alpha hydroxy acid similar to those used in chemical peels that we use in the office. Please watch my Question and Answer videos for more skincare tips!
A combination product including hydroquinone, kojic acid ,tretinoin and a steroid would be more effective.IPL or laser such as q switched yag would be a good option.
Using lemon juice tolighten dark spots is one of those tall tales that we still hear about fromtime to time. The acid in the juice may help exfoliate the skin but it hasnever been shown to lighten dark spots of any significance. I would stronglyrecommend that you consult a board-certified dermatologist to first examine thedark spots to determine why you have them and then to develop a skin careregimen to make them go away. Occasionally, this may require the use of peelsor lasers, but we want to always start with skin care.
Lemon juice is a carrier of Citric Acid which is commonly used in products to have a "brightening effect" on the skin as well as exfoliating the surface. Although these are great treatments to be giving your skin- there are no guaranteed reduction on pigmented lesions. There are additional ingrediants that you could look for in helping with superficial pigmentation such as: Vitamin C, Ferulic Acid and Retinol.
Lemon juiceis acidic so it can exfoliate the skin somewhat giving the appearance oflighter spots, however it has no long term benefits. If you were interested inlightening “dark spots” you can try a brightening/bleaching cream and lasertreatments.Brightening/bleachingcreams don’t actually bleach the skin. They inhibit the over productions ofmelanin that causes the pigmentation, by lowering the melanin the pigmentationwill lighten over time. If you stop the use of these types of creams then it ispossible to stimulate the production of more melanin and get more pigmentation.Best resultsfor “dark spot” removal would be lightening creams with laser treatments, afterthe laser treatments continued use of lightening creams will prolong the laserbenefits and prevent future pigmentation. It is also important to use an SPF 50every morning and to try to avoid the sun between the hours of 12-3.Consult witha Board Certified Dermatologist to see which treatment and cream is best foryour skin type.
