I can feel the stitches of the tip of my nose, what should I do?

I had rhinoplasty about 3 1/2 weeks ago. I have been sneezin and coughing. Yesterday there was something sticking out of my nose. I thought it was a little mucus however it turns out to be part of my stitch in the inside of the upper tip of my nose. It was long so I cut what was sticking out of my nose and left the rest of it. And now I see a little stitch coming out on my right nostril. I've been coughing a lot but have taking cough drops to control it. What do I do?

Most sutures used in rhinoplasty are dissolving but even so may take 2-3 months to dissolve. Contact your surgeon who knows exactly what was done.

It is highly likely that you are seeing some of the ends of the sutures that were used to close the incisions in your nose.  This should not be alarming.  It is very likely that these are absorbable sutures that do not necessarily need to be removed.  In fact, you may continue to see suture material as you progress with your healing and the sutures begin to dissolve.  If they become irritating to you, your surgeon can very likely trim them so that they are not bothersome.

 Thanks for writing in! During nasal surgery there are often stitches placed inside and outside the nose depending on what was done. Many of these are absorbable meaning they are meant to come out on their own. Most likely this is just one of those stitches and is nothing to worry about. Go see your surgeon and she or he will cut it out for you. Good luck!

Obviously, if you are having a problem 3 1/2 weeks after surgery, go see your surgeon!   He will trim whatever needs to be trimmed and clean up whatever needs to be cleaned up!
