How does Caffeine affect Sclerotherapy?

Question

I had Sclerotherapy on the side of my forehead/Temple area last week. The care sheet that was sent home with me said no caffeine for a week. I was wondering why and how caffeine could negatively affect the treatment. I ask because I have never seen this or heard of it before. Thank you in advance for any info!

Thank you for your question. We do not worry about caffeine, but are concerned about Aspirin, Advil, etc., as they can affect the outcome negatively. Enough caffeine could have an effect if it elevated your blood pressure, but short of that I see no major negatives. Afterall, caffeine helps patients get to our office on time. I hope this helps!

Caffeine does not affect sclerotherapy.  Perhaps, your doctor was worried that caffeine may cause constriction of blood vessels.  There i no need to stop caffeine for sclerotherapy.

There is no adverse effect or contraindication to drink caffeinated products after sclerotherapy. I don't understand why your doctor's instructions say that.
