Can breast augmentation make breast tenderness linked to menstrual cycle worse?

I’ve been considering breast augmentation for a long time, but my breasts become extremely painful and tender at certain stages of my menstrual cycle, and I’m concerned that the procedure could make this problem worse.

Thank you for your question.  I do not believe that your breasts should be more tender during your menstrual cycles after a breast augmentation.  It is possible during the healing process for that to happen but should all go back to the way it was prior to surgery.   Best of luck to you.

Thank you for your question. The breast tenderness associated with your menstrual cycles is due to a cellular response of breast tissue to changing levels of the concentration of circulating hormones in the blood stream that are modulated by the pituitary gland.  This is not affected by placement of breast implants.

Thank you for your question. The surgery should not affect your breast tenderness in any way. After your breast augmentation surgery, your tenderness should not have changed during your menstrual cycles. Breast augmentation would not be expected to make it better or worse. Whatever tenderness and changes you are having related to your cycle would likely continue, but not necessarily be any worse.

If your breasts become tender during some stages of menstruation cycle, you can expect it to stay the same after breast implants. The implants probably won't significantly affect the pain level. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

Breast augmentation should not make breast tenderness associated with your menstrual cycle any worse, nor will it likely improve it.  You will have breast soreness after surgery during the recovery period, but that is different and should subside once healed.

Thank you for your excellent question. Breast augmentation (whether over or under the muscle) does not make you more or less predisposed to experiencing greater breast pain from menstruation. While swelling after breast augmentation surgery may temporarily increase menstrual breast pain, you should find that any pain or tenderness returns to your pre-op level.
