Red nose tip 4 years after rhinoplasty (photo)

Question

Hi I had rhinoplasty around 4 years ago and the last couple months I noticed the tip of one side of my nose is pretty red. Could it be from surgery even though it’s been this long? I don’t have any grafts, but might have permanent sutures. I have paper thin skin, is there anything that can help?

As far as I can understand from your question first of all, I recommend you to have a detailed ent examination, it will not be possible to give accurate information without an examination.
It would be better face to face consultation.

Thank you for your enquiry and sharing your photograph.

The area of redness on the tip of the nose does not correspond to typical placement of stitches for contouring the cartilages. It therefore seems unlikely to be related to a low-grade infection at an interval from your surgery.

I suggest discussing this with a dermatologist in case it is an unrelated event.

If you had permanent sutures in place then it is possible that is could become infected.  I recommend you see your surgeon.  You may need to have the suture removed.

The best advice I could provide is to visit a reputable rhinoplasty specialist. We used to use permanent sutures in the beginning of our practice, and when they have extruded, it has usually been on the inside of the nose, not through the skin. Depending on your examination, sometimes a course of antibiotics may be helpful, and curative. Wishing you well, and I hope this helps. Sincerely, Dr Joseph
