Why are my eyelids uneven? (photos)

Question

I have bad allergies and if i dont rub them they burn awfully. I wore contacts for a while but I didnt like pulling my eyelids down to get them in so I stopped after a month or two. The eyes are even but from the tear ducts down to the lower eyelid my right side seems to droop more. I want it fixed but my peers think I am just crazy. Will proper sleep and discontinuing lenses and itching help alleviate the droopiness?

Thank you for sharing your question and posting your photos. Allergies often cause swollen eyelids. Even if you discontinue rubbing them, the eyelids often become red and puffy. Cold compresses and oral or topical antihistamines are often beneficial. Sometime contact lens use or lens cleaner can trigger allergies. I hope you find this helpful.Good luck,

You may have a reaction to the contact lens.  Itchy eyes is a symptom.  The basis for this needs to be determined by an examination.  There are treatment options including discontinuing contact lens wear.

Nasal allergies often are associated with itchy eyes. Our normal response is to rub the eyelids to relieve the symptoms. As you have noticed, the more you rub the eyelids, the weaker they become. Any difference is usually due to a difference in the amount and intensity of the symptoms and subsequent rubbing of the eyelid.Therefore, keeping your nasal allergy symptoms under control will minimize the need to rub your eyelids. If the eyelids become too weak to hold the lid up against the eyeball, a lid-shortening procedure or lateral canthopexy can elevate the lid back into position. Wearing contact lenses requires manipulation of the eyelids and can cause weakness if too vigorous or too prolonged. Proper sleep is always a good idea and a good recommendation, but may not correct the lid droop if the nasal allergies and lid manipulation or rubbing are not minimized. The stronger the eyelid, the less it will droop. It would be very unusual to need surgery at your age unless asymmetry is pronounced. Be sure to get a thorough evaluation by a qualified surgeon. John Standefer MD
