Can I get a Gastric Balloon after having muscle repair?

While it would certainly be safe (and effective) for you to have a gastric balloon placed to increase weight loss, you may also consider a newer endoscopic procedure called the ESG, or endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty.  It is also performed using a scope passed through the mouth, but in this case the functional size of the stomach is significantly reduced by suturing a large amount of it closed.  This results in a permanent reduction in the size of your stomach, and nothing has to be removed after 6 months.  

Yes, you can get a gastric balloon after having a full tummy tuck with muscle repair, but there are a few things to consider. Since a gastric balloon is a non-surgical weight loss option that is placed in the stomach to help with portion control, it does not directly affect the abdominal muscles that were repaired during your tummy tuck. However, weight loss from the balloon may lead to changes in your abdominal appearance, including potential laxity in the skin or muscles, depending on how much weight you lose.
Because you had muscle repair, your surgeon may want to evaluate whether your abdominal wall remains strong and whether any weight gain has affected the results of your previous surgery. It would be a good idea to consult both a bariatric specialist and a plastic surgeon to ensure that a gastric balloon is the right option for you.
