I’ve had rhinoplasty done a few months ago (a little more than 6) and just wondering when is it ok and safe to go to a shooting range and shoot a rifle (m16)? Is there anything apart from things physically hitting my nose that I should be careful of? Could the loud sounds or maybe the slight heat that can be felt after shooting have an effect? Thanks.
Answer: Shooting after rhinoplasty If you are 6 months post open rhinoplasty with nasal bone osteotomies, you should be safe to shoot 5.56 (.223) in an AR platform without any concern for damaging your nose.

Answer: Rhinoplasty post-op Hello! Thank you for your question. After rhinoplasty surgery each patient should be very careful during the first year (and even after). You shouldn't get anything hitting your nose, it may lead to complications for your nose.Best regards!

Answer: We allow unrestricted physical activity 21 days after rhinoplasty. I don't see any reason why you could not go to a range 21 days after rhinoplasty surgery. Your nose would not be sensitive to the loud noise. You may have some nasal congestion which could necessitate some mouth breathing, however, I don't think any harm would happen. Hope this is helpful! Sincerely, Dr Joseph

Answer: Shooting a Rifle S/P Rhinoplasty I suggest reaching out to the surgeon who performed your Rhinoplasty to find out when they believe it would be safe for you to shoot a rifle after Rhinoplasty as well as other activity restrictions they may recommend within 1 year of surgery.

Answer: Rhinoplasty It is important to take proper precautions after rhinoplasty surgery to protect the healing nose and avoid any potential complications. As a general rule, it is recommended to wait at least 6-8 weeks after surgery before engaging in any activities that may involve contact with the nose or facial area, such as playing sports or going to a shooting range. While the risk of physical impact from shooting a rifle may be minimal, it is still important to exercise caution and protect the nose from any potential trauma or injury. This can be done by wearing protective gear such as a helmet or face shield, and avoiding any direct contact with the nose. Additionally, exposure to loud sounds and heat from firing a rifle may also have an impact on the healing nose. Loud sounds can cause pressure changes in the nasal cavity, and heat can cause swelling or irritation of the nasal tissues. It is recommended to avoid exposure to these factors as much as possible during the initial healing period after rhinoplasty. It is important to consult with your surgeon before engaging in any activities that may pose a risk to your healing nose. They can provide you with specific guidelines and recommendations based on your individual case and help you determine when it is safe to resume normal activities. Best of luck !
