Good question; as this one presents itself into our practice on most clinic days. Yes, dermal fillers provide an excellent choice to augment the chin-jaw area. I usually recommend Juvederm Voluma as the first choice to accomplish this procedure. Voluma is hyaluronic acid product which is reversible and allows the patient some comfort level when they undergo the procedure - knowing it can be dissolved if needed. Also Radiesse is an excellent injectable that can provide the same result, although not reversible, time as with any injectable will soon do the same thing, just not an immediate result. (Radiesse has more product in the prepackaged syringe; 1.5 cc - Voluma 1 cc) Both last about the same length of time. Radiesse in our practice is somewhat lesser priced than Voluma - therefore if more product is needed it provides more value to the patient. Are you a candidate? As with any assessment for a cosmetic procedure there are several factors one should take into consideration and explained to the patient. Better quality photographs providing all angles of the face, chin positioning, hair pulled back off the face, etc. Are there are implants already in place, dental work, herpetic infections? Just to name a few. Although complications are rare, they do occur - especially in this region due to nerve and artery involvement. Some can be severe, therefore I would recommend you seek out an board certified physician who is experienced with injections in this area, or an injector who has been thoroughly trained by one such physician.Best regardsSR Waldman
