It has been three (3) weeks that I am on medical treatment for Psoriasis-Arthritis and I am planning to do a BBL very soon. I have tried to talk to my surgeon but did not get clear idea whether it will affect or no. The medicine that i use is (Sandimmun Neoral oral solution) and in the instruction receipt its written that this medicine increases the chances of infections, and weakens the immunity system. in many cases, its used also for patients that do organ implants. many thanks

Answer: Communication is a must Hi and welcome to our forum!Any medication which hinders your immune system greatly increases operative risk. Your rheumatologist (or internist) is far more familiar with the effects of this drug than your plastic surgeon. The timing of an elective cosmetic procedure under these circumstances is of critical importance to minimize potential complications. Your plastic surgeon and rheumatologist must work together to determine an opportune window of time for this procedure.Best wishes...

Answer: Bbl This is a very important question and I am surprised that your doctor did not give you a clear answer. The medication you are on lowers the immune system and thus increases your chances of developing postoperative wound infection. My advise is to postpone the procedure until you either stop the medication or shift to one that does not affect your immune system.Shady Hayek, M.D. Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Beirut, Lebanon
