I’m 33F East Asian. Over the last few years I’ve noticed the folds under my eyes are becoming increasingly uneven. Under my left eye is a small mole that seems to weight the skin down, making a ripple underneath rather than a deeper fold. I find it very embarrassing I’m not sure where to start. Should I consult with a dermatologist? Or is this only correctable with surgery? Do I need the mole removed in order to fix this?

Answer: How to address uneven folds under eyes? Hello @drillbits, thank you for your question. Thank you for your question. It is important to remember that we aren't completely equal on both sides; there are always some differences that may or may not be noticeable. It is wise to keep this in mind when setting expectations. You may develop a nonsurgical plan, which will bring about improvements in some aspects. For more information and recommendations, consult with one or several board certified plastic surgeons. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS. Answer: Natural aging changes What you are experiencing is the natural aging changes that happen around the eye: fat prolapse into eyelid, laxity of muscle, and wrinkling of skin due to aging. There are a variety of treatment options available such has surgery (lower blepharoplasty), laser resurfacing or chemical peel, etc. The mole is not the reason for the wrinkling you are seeing, but that can also be surgically addressed. You also have hooding of the upper eyelids. Seek a consultation with an experienced Oculo-Facial Plastic surgeon that has had additional training in Asian Eyelid surgery.
