Hello, I had my nose done in September 2022 so I’m now 8 months post op from a rhinoplasty. My nose before surgery was extremely deviated to the left. After my rhinoplasty I now appear to have uneven nostrils and I feel this is making my nose look crooked, do you think this is swelling? My surgeon just said this depends on my facial structure but I didn’t have uneven nostrils before!
Answer: Your nose appears swollen 8 months after rhinoplasty surgery. Since your surgery was less than a year ago and since you appear to have thick oily nasal tip skin, you are probably still swollen in the tip of your nose and that could be causing a bit of nostril asymmetry. If this is still bothering you in several months, please consider re-asking your question with before and after photos. I hope this is helpful! Sincerely, Dr Joseph

Answer: Nostrils and swelling Rhinoplasty is one of the most challenging operations in all of plastic surgery, because the final outcomes don't appear for such a long time after surgery. I tell my patients that they'll have an idea of their nose at 2 weeks and a good understanding their outcome at 2 months, but that the nose continues to refine for much, much longer. The results at one year will be minutely different that three years. That being said, revision or touch-ups are generally considered acceptable at the one-year mark and beyond to allow for the initial scar maturation to occur. Wait for that milestone before considering a touch-up procedure, if desired.

Answer: Nostril asymmetry Hi. Swelling is certainly a factory 8 months after surgery, especially with thicker skin, and this can contribute to differences in nostril appearance. However, it is also possible that the nostril asymmetry was masked prior to surgery, but now more visible since the deviated nose was corrected. Unless the nostrils were reduced, it is unlikely that surgery changed where they actually attach to the face. Nostril asymmetries are very common, usually the nostril that attaches higher is on the deeper / more recessed side of the face. They can be very difficult to treat but I have had some success with subalar grafts as described by Dr. Norman Pastorek. However, I would allow more time for the resolution of swelling, perhaps 6 more months. In the meantime, look for nostril height asymmetries on celebrities, you'll be surprised how many you find. Hope that helps.

Answer: Post-op rhinoplasty Hello! Thank you for your question. From the photos you provided I cannot say if it still swelling or not because your tip looks very bulbous (and a bit droopy). Maybe it was your choice but the tip looks like it is not supported. Anyway you have thick skin so the swelling can be there for around 1 and a half years. Best regards!Prof. Dr. Selcuk Inanli

Answer: Postoperative swelling of the nose Thank you for your query! From your pictures, there does appear to be swelling of your nose, which is not unusual during your recovery. Some of the uneven/crooked look can be because of this. Your surgeon may advise some exercises or other measures to reduce the swelling. Some surgeons also advise nasal retainers/dilators for your nostrils which can help. Please discuss all your concerns with your surgeon and follow his/her advice as it does take a full year for the nose to attain its final shape. All the best!
