Internal scar tissue in ‘wet lip’ after juverderm - what I can do?

It is not uncommon for patients to experience lumps or bumps after lip filler injections, even after the filler has dissolved. These lumps can be caused by various factors, including uneven distribution of the filler, inflammatory reactions, and the formation of scar tissue.

If your practitioner has determined that the lumps in your upper lip are due to internal scar tissue, you may want to consider consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist who has experience in revision lip augmentation. They can examine your lips and determine the best course of action to address the lumps and any scarring that may be present.

The surgeon may recommend one or more of the following treatments:

-Steroid injections: Injecting steroids into the affected area can help reduce inflammation and promote the breakdown of scar tissue.

-Hyaluronidase injections: Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that can dissolve hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane. Injecting hyaluronidase into the affected area can help break down any remaining filler and reduce the size of the lumps.

-Surgical excision: In some cases, surgical excision may be necessary to remove the scar tissue and lumps. This involves making a small incision in the lip and removing the scar tissue.
It is important to choose a qualified and experienced practitioner for any revision lip augmentation procedures. You can start by researching board-certified plastic surgeons or dermatologists in your area who specialize in lip augmentation and revision procedures.

During the consultation, be sure to discuss your goals and concerns with the surgeon and ask to see before and after photos of previous patients who have undergone similar procedures.

Sometimes when people get their lips augmented, there is a natural propensity to bite the area of the lip that comes in between your upper and lower teeth. If this is the case and you feel yourself biting these areas in your upper lip, excision of these nodules under local anesthetic in the office may be considered. It’s a little difficult to make an accurate assessment based on pictures alone. It looks like you may have developed a granulomas of your upper lip.
I suggest consulting with local plastic surgeons or otorhinolaryngologists in your community.
Granulomas can be treated with topical silver nitrate or anti-inflammatories steroid injections
