Thank you for your question. A hematoma can be very mild or very pronounced in its presentation. A mild one may induce slightly more swelling and increased bruising and will likely resolve on its own. A more severe hematoma can result in dramatic asymmetry in terms of swelling, feelings of light headedness due to loss of blood, severe bruising, and can be rapidly growing. If you every experience the latter, then I would contact your surgeon immediately and if you have trouble, you may even go to the ER. Larger hematomas often have to be surgically drained.
Hello! Thank you for the question. If a small hematoma is present, it may be safely watched conservatively. If large, signs of an infection developing in the stagnant fluid collection, or significant deformity/necrosis developing, surgical evacuation may be required. Your surgeon will determine this and I would recommend close follow-up. Best wishes!
Thank you for your question. Treatment of a hematoma in a lumpectomy depends on the size. Majority of the ones will absorb. If the mass was large and a big area was removed then the hematoma will also be large and surgical treatment may be necessary. Please follow up with your surgeon. Best of luck.
Large hematoma as compared to the volume of the breast, needs evacuation. Very small hematoma will resorb but will leave scarring behind and may cause retraction of the area to require revision
Thank you for your question. Drains are recommended during the exchange as some capsule work is done. It's even more important when am anatomical implant is used. Best of luck.
An ADM is used with many applications in plastic surgery but it is most important with breast cancer reconstruction. It allows better soft tissue healing and defines the lower crease.
Thank your for your question. What you are experiencing is very common after breast reconstruction with placement of expanders under the muscle. Ask for a referral to physical therapy as it is very important for you to start improving your range of motion and having a good posture....
