Discolored skin on left breast post op. What is causing the skin darkening & pain? (Photo)

Thank you for your question and photos. It is not unusual to experience some bruising after breast augmentation surgery. Also, tightness may also be experienced as the tissues around the implants are still swollen following the surgery.

However, if you experience significant change in the size of your breast and that the bruising persists, it is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for an in-person examination. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

You appear to have some extra bruising which could be from a hematoma. Having a hematoma would be more painful, and probably needs to be removed. You could have an ultrasound done to check.

Thanks for the question. I almost looks like you may have a hematoma in that breast. I don't know how long it's been there. When blood gets stuck in the breast tissue is can cause something called hemosiderin staining. That kind of looks like what might be going. I would make an appointment to follow up with your surgeon. Best,~Dr. Sieber

By your photos it looks like you may have developed a hematoma of collection of blood in the surgical pocket and around the implant.  Would definitely recommend returning to your surgeon for repeat evaluation.  They could consider doing an ultrasound or CT scan if exam is unsure.  In my opinion an undrained hematoma puts you at risk for developing capsular contracture later on.  Thanks for your question.
