Nipple sensitivity a year and a half after breast augmentation?

Dear Mili,   Sorry about your over sensitive nipple. In my practice, when ever there is skin over sensitivity, regardless of the type  of surgery, I recommend treatment based on Johns Hopkins department of plastic surgery study. In my experience I found it to be very efficient.   According to their recommendation, I advise my patients to use soft cloth, like wool, velvet, cotton etc and rub  the sensitive area three times a day for 5 minutes each time. You will be surprise how effective is that technique. However, be patient,  because it take 6-8 weeks,  or sometimes longer  to realize the improvement.                   Best of luck,                                          Dr Widder

Nipple and areola sensitivity after breast augmentation is certainly a known change. It happens in a certain number of women and tends to settle out over the first year. Those with sensitivity changes beyond one year tend to persist over time, but I have seen changes occur several years down the road.I would discuss the matter with your surgeon. I agree with the consensus that this is nerve regeneration and may take several years to recover.  Frequently hypersensitivity is a good sign and may precede recovery of feeling in the nipple.  Massaging the area may help to desensitize the uncomfortable feeling.

Sorry to hear that you are still experiencing sensitivities. Yes, this can happen to people. It is a small percent, and hopefully with even more time, they may return to normal. Nerves are disrupted and stretched during breast surgery and it can take months to even years to heal. However, it can also be that it does not resolve over time. It is hard to know exactly what will happen to each individual because everyone heals and responds differently.
