Hi there, I am a 22 year old female. I had my rhinoplasty august of 2022. My process for rhinoplasty was good at the start, 6 months after my rhinoplasty I had little to no swelling and my nose looked amazing. I have fairly thick skin prior to my rhinoplasty. at 14 months post op i got hit in the face with a soccer ball. my nose has been swelling since then some days more than others. Will Kenalog injections help? I am so sad there was no swelling before, i loved my nose.
Answer: Injury after rhinoplasty I strongly recommend that patients see their surgeon if they get a nose injury after their rhinoplasty. No one knows the structure of your nose better than they do. If the shape sometimes is back to the pre-injury shape, then it is likely swelling. In some surgeries a graft is used and an injury can push it out of position (that does not sound like the case here). Also, some people experience a fracture of the cartilage or bone after an injury of the nose. Again it does not sound like what you are describing. Swelling takes much longer to resolve in a nose which has had surgery because of the scar that was made when it healed. This scar creates "road blocks" to fluid drainage. If the swelling is tender to touch or itchy, then I definitely recommend steroid injection. Itching and/or tenderness when touching a healing area are signs of excessive scar formation. If it is swelling alone, steroid injection is still a reasonable option because there is likely some scar forming inside. Some surgeons also use 5 fluorouracil. Massaging the area (from the tip of the nose going back and up) can also help swelling resolve (I usually recommend about 1 minute, 3 times a day, for 2 weeks). Head elevation when sleeping would help some, but may not be worth the effort if it disrupts your sleep.

Answer: Kenalog injections I personally would not do a Kenalog injection for what you describe it. This treatment can have detrimental rare side effects. That can be highly undesirable. Talk to your provider and ask them for their assistance. Best, Matt hagstrom, MD.
