Thank you for your question. Generally, photos are used to show before and after results, and it can show differences from procedures. Physicians often will recommend reviewing images that are similar to a person's general appearance, body frame, etc for closer comparisons.
You should always ask to see previous work, or look it up on the website or social media. It is important to advocate for yourself and make sure the surgeon is experienced and right for you. Feel free to get a second opinion elsewhere.
I wouldn’t say that it is necessarily a bad sign but as a patient, you have right to see your surgeon’s previous work. Most surgeons share before/after pictures of their previous patients on websites or social media accounts as it is one of the main deciding factors of potential patients
Rhinoplasty is probably the most demanding procedure we do in plastic surgery. Expertise in this field is hard to acquire and requires a minimum of several hundred surgeries. Every board-certified plastic surgeon is not automatically an expert in rhinoplasty. The website or office collection of before and after photos is a good way to evaluate the expertise of the surgeon, in particular when nose surgery is considered.
A rhinoplasty is just a ridiculously complicated operation, and achieving a good result requires experience, technical skill, judgment, knowledge of what is attractive, knowledge of how to work with everyone's different tissues, communicating with the patient to hone in on an ideal goal, and believe it or not, a lot lot more. Most plastic surgeons are quite poor at this procedure. Here's a metaphor that might help: if you were planning to hire a portrait artist, for thousands of dollars, to paint a portrait of a loved one, would you hire someone without seeing any of his past work? You never ever would. And it's more crucial here, because if you make a mistake and the portrait sucks, you can throw it away and hire someone else. If the rhinoplasty is performed poorly, though, now the next surgeon has to wade through the first operation's damage to do as best as he can. Now, having said all that, a doctor must get experience when he gets out of school, and won't have lots of photos to show. It's true. Happened to me. But *you* don't have to go to that doctor.Interesting side note: I was at a portrait painter's studio, and I mentioned to him that I used "portrait painters" in describing why before and afters are so important in my line of work. He said that, when you're hiring a portrait painter, seeing his past work isn't enough: you have to see a portrait that he painted of someone *that you know well*! I said I didn't get that; he had all these portraits in his studio, mounted adjacent to photographs of the people, and the likenesses were stunning. I told him I can tell perfectly well that he does an incredible job. He said, no, you don't know these people. The portrait might look exactly like the photograph, but you can't tell whether I painted the subject's *personality* into the painting as well. (!!!)Hope that helps.
Thank you for your question. In a word "yes". Most of us plastic surgeons who do noses are very proud of our work and like to show our galleries to our prospective patients. It is definitely unusual for someone not to show you their before and after pictures. I would consider going somewhere else.
Favorable rhinoplasty before and after galleries are one of the important criteria for choosing your rhinoplasty specialist. Generally, we do show our patients photographs of others during their healing process so that they know what to expect. If you have any doubts, you can ask your surgeon to show you photos of examples of patients with noses similar to yours. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr Joseph PS: Always go with your gut.
You should look on their website or ask to be shown pictures. I don’t blame you for wanting to see photos in todays visual world
If you'd like to review examples of a plastic surgeon's work you might need to ask them as some might not do this automatically. It's a reasonable expectation.
Hi @goldadam, This likely depends on the training of the surgeon you saw for your functional rhinoplasty. Many generalists who do functional surgery may not utilize photos or focus on cosmetic results. I recommend a consultation with a facial plastic surgeon who specializes in rhinoplasty surgery. Best of luck, Dr. Ghazizadeh
Please consider re-asking you a question with your current knows and how you would like it to look. Most rhinoplasty experts can look at these two photos and give you an idea as to whether or not you have realistic expectations. Wishing you well. Sincerely, Dr. Joseph
The fact that you get pain when pushing on the implant might imply that the nerve is not dead, so the question would be: if the implant is removed, might the numbness go away? Seems to me there's only one way to find out. If the implant is made out of silicone, they are not difficult to remove....
If you were experiencing clicking at the bottom of your nose, it's likely the bottom of your nasal septum rubbing against your tip cartilage when you move your upper lip. This is not onto itself reason to do surgery. If you have nasal obstruction that needs repair, you may benefit from...
