Breast augmentation without general anesthetic?

Saline breast augmentation should be available with most/all plastic surgeons, as well as gel implants, for small breasts. Sizing would be during consultation.

However, I would NOT recommend local anesthesia only for breast augmentation. In my experience, creating a space for the implants, especially if under the muscle, and the overall discomfort, would compromise results and safety.

Dear Dynamic637834, thanks for sharing your concern saline products are not longer the best option for many surgeons and this is for many reasons , I do rather suggest Gel and about anesthesia local can be used depending on your evaluations. generally speaking, it is possible to get BA without general anesthesia. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations.

With effective local anesthesia breast augmentation can routinely be performed without general anesthesia under IV sedation using the same medications routinely used for colonoscopy and I have done thousands with this technique. Saline implants need to be placed under the muscle which is my routine and most patients in my practice choose saline implants because there is less tissue reaction and the incidence of capsular contracture is extremely low.

Unless you are younger than 22 years old, why would you get saline implants which have more complications than silicone implants?!
You can have sedation if the implants are placed over the muscle, but again this is a poor choice if the implants need to go under the muscle, especially salines.

It is possible to do breast augmentation under local anesthesia and I’m sure many surgeon do this. If you want saline implants that should not be a problem

Thank you for your question. All plastic surgeons offer both saline and silicone breast implants for augmentation. Although general anesthesia is safe, I personally have done my breast augmentations under deep intravenous sedation and tumescent anesthesia only, for over 30 years. The patients are ready to leave the office in 20-30 minutes post surgery. There's no 2-3 hours of recovery time with potential nausea/vomiting, which seems to be more common with general anesthesia. Safety is the number one priority in surgery. I elect to perform breast augmentation under general anesthesia for the patient's safety and comfort.
