Would having a trait for beta thalassemia exclude me as a candidate for Liposuction? (photos)

Question

I was told I have the beta thalassemia trait which has been causing the size, shape, and weight of my RBC's to be abnormal. I take a daily multivitamin, iron supplement, vitamin d and calcium tablet so my hgb and hct are WNL. Iron is good too.

I have performed liposuction frequently on those who have thalassemia trait, you will need clerance by an internist/oncologist prior to the procedure (depending on extent of the procedure).  Best, Dr. Emer.

Cosmetic surgery in patients with medical problems is possible as long as the medical problem is under control. Your medical doctor should be able to tell you what do you need to do in preparation for surgery. Remember that the most important factor in obtaining a good result in your cosmetic surgery is the surgeon you choose to perform it. Be sure you seek the help of a ABPS certified physician, preferably a member of the ASAPS

As long as you are otherwise healthy, having the trait for beta thalassemia should not exclude you from having liposuction.    Consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to further discuss your options.  Good luck!
