Why does my areola keep spreading? Had revision done 3 months ago. (photo)

Thanks fo rthe question. I have found that when just doing the areolas without any additional skin being removed to leave a vertical scar (lollipop scar) there can be the stretch of the scar. I think a circumferential scar is pulled in all directions due to the tension that is created and this results in a stretched scar. It might need a further revision but equally laser therapy over the area can sometimes helpSpeak to your surgeon about the possible options Best wishes

Areolas can continue to enlarge for several months after surgery due to tension on the nipple. It is best to allow the breast and areola to heal fully (6 months to a year) before attempting any revision. Performing a revision while the tissue is still healing will result in more suture failure as the tissue is inflammed and tends to spread and shred through the stitch that is trying to hold it together. I see this often and performed a modified techniques which takes tension off the areola during the healing phase to minimize this risk. Hope this helps!

It is difficult to say without a history / physical.  From the single photo shown, there could be some subtle difference in blood flow between the areola.  this could explain difficulty with wound healing.  Otherwise, the result is good.  I would maintain a good relationship with your plastic surgeon.  Good luck.
