I had a bilateral brachioplasty in March 2022. I had some light nerve pain even after the procedure, like including past 6 months out. I knew this was a complication of the procedure. Yesterday, I had to get blood drawn and I had a vein blow. I got blood drawn from one of the veins in the inner elbow and now I’m having more pain. It hurts more now than it did yesterday, and I feel the pain near the wrist and back of my arm. Is this normal?
Answer: Pain The escaped blood is probably irritating a sensory nerve close to your scar. Apply cold compresses to decrease swelling and limit the excess movement of your arm.

Answer: Blown Vein and Nerve Pain Post-Brachioplasty Thank you for sharing details about your experience post-brachioplasty and your concerns about a blown vein leading to arm pain. After a brachioplasty, it's not unusual for some patients to experience nerve sensitivity in the upper arm and forearm, known as hyperalgesia. This heightened sensitivity might mean even a gentle touch can provoke significant pain. This can be particularly pronounced in individuals with conditions like fibromyalgia. Separately, when a vein is inadvertently punctured or "blown" during a blood draw, blood can leak out into the surrounding tissues. This leaked blood, as it accumulates, can exert pressure on nearby structures, including nerves. This pressure might be the cause of the pain you're experiencing, even if you haven't undergone a brachioplasty. While the brachioplasty might have heightened your nerve sensitivity, a blown vein during venipuncture can lead to discomfort and pain by exerting pressure on surrounding nerves. I hope this provides clarity on your situation. Please consult with your surgeon or primary care physician if the pain persists or worsens. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen

Answer: Fragile veins around surgery site For a long time after surgery area of the surgical wound and around it will be stiff and fragile. This applies for the veins. However, in some cases pain after "blown vein" may be related to blood cloth, hematoma, rather than surgery. You should have it checked in the office where blood was drown?

Answer: Arm pain It sounds as if there is some new inflammation and swelling in the area that can be attributed to your recent blood draw. I think that the new pain you are having should resolve. I would recommend trying to wear some gentle compression and taking some anti-inflammatories . You may even try applying something cold over the area.
