Are petechiae normal after a Halo laser treatment? (Photo)

Question

I had a Halo laser treatment a week ago and have quite a bit of what looks like petechiae all over my nose. Is this normal? How soon before it goes away?

Thank you for your question.  The Halo laser stimulates new collagen growth by creating microscopic injuries in the skin.  As the skin heals, your body naturally creates new collagen at each site of injury, gradually improving the texture of your skin.  Sometimes these microscopic injuries can also involve the superficial blood vessels, resulting in the petechiae you're seeing.  This isn't uncommon after Halo, and should gradually resolve on its own within 2-3 weeks.  Best of luck!

As a result of a controlled injury that is fractional laser treatment such as Halo your skin respond with a rapid healing response, part of which is growing new blood vessels. As such process takes place in some areas blood vessels become visible or petechiae appear as a result of light pressure. As mentioned earlier, no need to worry, give it some time and you'll love the results. All my patients are happy.

Thanks for the great question and the photo. What you're experiencing is totally normal. In areas of the body where the skin is a little bit thinner (like on the nose) it can take a little more time to heal. In some patients in may take an addition 5-7 days before the skin is healed across the entire face. Hang in there! It looks like you already have a fantastic result from the treatment!~Dr. Sieber
