How many treatments are recommended for the Halo laser?

Question

Interested in Halo for my face and neck. I'm 39, light skinned and my skin is in good condition. Had a special picture of my skin taken which showed moderate brown in the underlying dermal layers. My plastic surgeon said it can be done once per year. Another clinic told me that one treatment wont be effective enough- two are necessary. Not sure what to think or how many treatments to purchase.

The number of Halo (Sciton hybrid fractional laser) treatments needed depend upon what we are trying to treat and the skin condition. Sometimes we add BBL (Scitons IPL) if needed. Usually 1-2 Halo treatments are needed but you can always start with one and see how results are before buying a second. Good question. Most patients, especially young patients like you, have beautiful results with one halo resurfacing treatment. There are several patients that love the results so much that they choose to have a second treatment 6-12 months after their first. This is an excellent question.  Every patient is different, and the exact number of Halo treatments a patient needs depends on a whole host of factors, including age; skin type; overall extent of sun damage/pigmentation/textural changes; and the laser settings used.  I find that most patients need 1-3 Halo treatments, spaced 6-8 weeks apart for best results.  In many cases, I also recommend doing BBL at the same time, to help address red and brown discoloration of the skin.  After completing a series of treatments, Halo can be repeated once every 1-2 years to help maintain your results.  Best of luck!

Make sure you go to someone that has a lot of experience with Halo- at your age- you should be able to have on treatment and have a terrific result.  Melasma is more difficult- but can certainly be done more than once a year- there are endless possibilities for settings- get opinions until you feel really good about what you hear.

Great question, thank you!  After a patient has a complimentary skin evaluation with our laser technician, one treatment may be recommended to achieve optimal results.  However, there are some patients, depending on their skin concerns and amount of sun damage that may benefit from additional treatments.  The Halo laser is great for restoring your skin's appearance and probably provides the best available 'one treatment' result compared to other minimal downtime lasers.

Thanks for the great question. If your main goal is to treat sun damage and brown colors in your skin, then I would start out trying an IPL treatment with the Halo. The IPL targets the browns specifically while the Halo will work to further even out your skin tone and texture. Great question! It's a little harder to say without seeing pictures, or better yet, seeing you in person. Halo is a very customizable treatment which can range from very light treatments with only minimal flaking to quite aggressive ones. The lighter the treatment, the more of these it will take to get a result. We have some patients who opt to do a series of 4 treatments with very minimal downtime whereas other patients would rather do one really big one. Adding in BBL at the same time is safe, adds no downtime and increases the amount of sun damage you can remove with each treatment.

The level of intensity and the number of treatments all depends on what you want your end result to be. A moderate intensity can help improve all the sun damage and a possible yearly treatment of Halo or BroadBand Light for maintenance. Your treatment plan will be different compared to others so you can start off with a Halo and then decide after seeing your results how often you would want it.
