Hi, I am looking to try lip fillers to improve volume. I have heard that some people experience an added benefit of hydration, too. Do you advise either juvederm volbella or juvederm ultra plus to achieve this? I am not looking for anything drastic, a minor plumping and hydration if possible. I also understand it may take a couple different visits to achieve this as my mouth is on the smaller side. Also is there any risk that lip filler would make my lips more dry/chapped?
Answer: Which Filler for Lips? Hi and thank you for your question. Both fillers can be used for lips, but Juvederm Volbella has been specifically developed for lips and it's a newer generation filler, so it might be preferred. More important than the choice of filler is the skill and experience of your injector so please make sure to do lots of research into that as well. Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederms absorb water once injected so they provide some hydration effects inside, but as for the outside of the lips and skin, they have no effect there. However, as your lips become plumber, it is possible to experience some minor increased skin dryness (simply because the surface area of lips has increased) and hence you may want to ensure following your skin care routine. I hope it helps and good luck!

Answer: Optimal LipFiller for you Dear Kelly, Thank you for your question, a very important one that we typically cover in our initial visit with our patients. Each patient is different in their wishes. Some require a very subtle and natural look while others (usually the younger ones) require a more intense and full look and then we also have the "inbetweeners" that want a medium change that still looks natural. After careful discussion about the size, shape and design that a patient wishes in great detail, together we choose, not only the filler that will achieve those wishes, but also the technique that we choose to employ. and variations there-of. The two you mention are some options, and, in that same family maybe you would prefer regular Juvederm Ultra (Plus is too strong for what I think you are seeking) and there are several other good and safe fillers on the market that you could discuss together with the plastic surgeon you choose. Make sure you seek a Board Certified Facial Plastic or Plastic Surgeon since there is a lot of skill and artistry involved in creating good, natural and safe lips. Best of Luck in your quest, Dr. Anna Petropoulos, MD, FRCS Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon Boston's North Shore IG : @centerforclassicbeauty (for some lip examples)

Answer: Would Juvederm Volbella or Ultra Plus be better for me? Thank you for sharing your question and photographs. Most likely volbella over ultra plus as the latter will produce a more swollen lip look and not a more natural one. There are some other fillers which may prove even better than either of these so seek out several consultations.

Answer: Either Some people respond better to one or the other but ultimately they are both in the same category. I would try whichever one your doctor recommends and try the other one the second time around and see which one you prefer. Overall any hyaluronic acid should give you your desired result if injected properly and your body responds well to it.

Answer: Choices of lip filler Thanks for your question. It would be best to be evaluated in person so your injector can choose the perfect product for you. In my opinion, Juvederm Ultra Plus is never a good first-time filler in the lips. Some people that have very naturally full and large lips do ok with it, but it tends to swell a lot in the first 24 hours and feels quite firm and sometimes looks artificial. I almost always start with one of the softer, more forgiving and natural looking HA fillers including Volbella, Restylane Kysse, Restylane Silk, Belotero, and RHA2. Please see an expert and good luck!
