Having breakouts after using a new sonic facial brush (using lowest cycle and brush)

Question

After having chemo in 2015, my pores were reduced, my skin smooth. I am 71 and had some acne as a teenager, but recently my pores were beginning to enlarge. So i asked for a sonic facial brush. Now I am experiencing breakouts particularly in hairline. Will this faze out over time or is there a problem?

Thank you for your question! The breakouts that you are experiencing could be caused from the facial brush due to not properly cleaning after use. Since the breakouts are occurring near your hairline it could also be due to not washing your shampoo/conditioner out completely. I would suggest using an exfoliating cleanser instead of the sonic facial brush. This should help eliminate the breakouts you are experiencing. Electric skin brushes (like clarisonic and others) are very popular for exfoliation. I believe these brushes spread bacteria around your face and contribute to acne. I've asked many patients, and no one seems to ever clean or replace the head. There are much better ways to exfoliate. Consider a really good glycolic cleanser.
