Do I have Stahl's ear? My ears don't fold at the top/sides (Photos)

Hello, hope you are well. You don't have Stahl's ear deformity--that refers to an extra fold of cartilage in the ear. You simply have an absent/underdeveloped antihelical fold which causes the cartilage to appear flat, enlarged, and likely more prominent than normal on an anterior view (head on). It can be reshaped with otoplasty if you find it bothersome.

Hello Ms. ! First of all thank you for your questions. I totally understand how it can affect you.Regarding your photos it looks like you have a deformity especially on the very top of your ears. It can be fixed with an Earfold/Otoplasty surgery.

Stahl’s bar is characterized by a vertical bump in the upper portion of your ear, where it’s normally flat. This bump extends up to the curved part of the top ear (helical rim). It doesn’t appear that you have this vertical bump. However, your helical rim does seem to be not as defined, giving the top of your ear a flattened out appearance. This issue can be resolved with cosmetic ear reshaping surgery.

In order to be called a stah ear, there must be a strong bridge of cartilage (3rd crus) extending from the antihelix fold to the helix.
