Will they be able to do the same as a physician that works with Cosmetic procedures?
Answer: Look For Board Certified Aesthetic Physicians When Considering Injectable Fillers & Botox Even though both may share certain tools in common, would you choose a plumber to fix your electrical problems or a carpenter to fix your plumbing? That is essentially what one is doing when considering an acupuncturist to inject a filler. And if budget is behind the consideration, you need to bear in mind the old adage that "Good work is not cheap, and cheap work is not good." Be wary also of non-physician and medspa providers that only use plain Restylane or simple Juvederm (rather than the scores of new and more site-specific and job-specific products currently available) and just Botox and "sell it" by the syringe or by the unit, respectively, rather than quoting fees for the whole job, as surgeons do when quoting a fee for the entire operation (rather than say quoting a surgery fee by the number of gauze pads or packages of syringes used). Make sure that you consult with a board certified aesthetic physician, and also make certain to ask to see his/her personal before and after photos before agreeing to proceed. "Buyer beware" is another good old adage to keep in mind when you do your vetting. Best of luck.

Answer: Can an acupuncturist perform cosmetic fillers, such as Juvederm? Dr. Grossman took my answer. The bottom line is that I can technically teach a 5 year old to inject Juvederm, but does that mean that that 5 year old should be doing it or anyone should trust them to do it....NO!While it may seem simple to inject a product, there can be simply catastrophic outcomes if done incorrectly. Please see the link I provided for a recent example I saw on social media. The bottom line is that an acupuncturist has no formal training in this procedure, facial anatomy, or most important, the plan of care should something go wrong. You need to see a medical professional with years of training in one of the core specialties for aesthetic surgery. It may cost a little more, but your health and safety is worth it.Good luck and be safe!Dallas R. Buchanan, MD, FACSOwner & Board-Certified Plastic SurgeonVIVIFY plastic surgery

Answer: Emphatic "NO" The simple answer in the State of Georgia is an emphatic "NO". The Official Code of GA 43-34-68. (2) That the acupuncturist cannot practice medicine, is not making a medical diagnosis of the person's disease or condition, and that such person should see a physician if he or she wants to obtain a medical diagnosis. As a Plastic Surgeon, I believe there is value to the patient to understand what both non surgical and surgical procedures can offer and help the patient make the proper decision. There is value to the patient for their physician to understand the pertinent anatomy, the science and technical details of each filler along with a sense of aesthetics in order to obtain a natural idealized result. Training and experience counts!

Answer: Acupuncturist doing fillers? The short answer here is no. The reasons are multiple, but some acupuncturists are not physicians. Only a physician can legally purchase fillers in the US. So non-physicians either work with physicians or they purchase materials from out of the US, which cannot be guaranteed to be the material you want. More importantly, aesthetic treatments should be performed by physicians with all of the training to know when fillers are appropriate and when they are not, as well as the pertinent anatomy. Ideally, this is a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. While other specialties do perform these procedures, plastic surgeons have unique training and knowledge base to provide the safest care.
