Braces / Invisalign with breast augmentation?

Question

Hi! I recently had a breast augmentation but was looking into getting braces behind my teeth or Invisalign. Will this be dangerous after my surgery or will I be ok with proper care and antibiotics? Any insight is appreciated.

Hello and thank you for your question! To put it simply, no there are no contraindications to having braces or Invisalign and having had a breast augmentation. I'm unsure when you had the augmentation done and whether you are still taking any post-op medication, but as long as you are able to eat/swallow without issue then you should be okay to proceed. As always though, make sure to clear anything with your surgeon and, in this case, your dentist/orthodontist. Hope this helps!

every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

It is safe for you to proceed with braces or Invisalign after you've had breast augmentation.  Speak with your surgeon about your concerns.  Prophylactic antibiotics can be prescribed if your surgeon feels it is necessary.

Braces should be fine if you take a dose of antibiotics prior to each orthodontic visit. However, please wait at least 6 weeks after surgery on your breasts before starting with braces.
